Who’s harebrained idea was this anyway? What a night! Today was our hottest day of the year so far, and of course, our brand new air conditioner that was installed during renovations, doesn’t seem to be blowing cold air. We hadn’t turned it on until today when temperatures rose to 34°C (93°F) which warmed up the house, and well, let’s just say we have every fan blowing, are down to tanks and shorts and hoping we can keep plugging along to get packed up. Nothing a nice cold beverage won’t help tackle, right?

The packing list is itemized by category (something my spreadsheet friends will appreciate); camping supplies, clothing, activities, outdoor supplies, food items, cooking supplies, admin (passports, reservations, maps, etc).
We picked up a rack and bag for the back of the car to help store extra items…it has a ton of room and we made some good progress crossing items off the list (and adding a few more).
We still bring our paper Rand McNally Road Atlas on road trips and look up directions in advance. No GPS here! We like following along with the map, and having the kids look for exit signs and landmarks, and sometimes getting a little off track. We always figure it out!

Here’s where we are going:
Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Mt. Rushmore, Black Hills National Forest; Billings, Montana; Silver Gate, Montana; Yellowstone National Park; Missoula, Montana; Renton, Washington; Seattle, Washington; Victoria, British Columbia; Sasquatch Provincial Park, B.C.; Revelstoke, B.C. (Canyon Hot Springs); Lake Louise, Alberta; Dinosaur Provincial Park, Calgary, Alberta; Regina, Saskatchewan; Winnipeg, Manitoba; Atikokan, Ontario; Minneapolis, MN; Omaha, NB(maybe); and back to Prairie Village.
We still haven’t booked anything after Atikokan, Ontario…we just can’t decide if we should go to the city of Minneapolis for the 4th of July, or find a small lake nearby and camp. We have time while on the road and can evaluate our threshold for continued camping as we journey back to PV. Maybe I’ll set a calendar reminder so I remember to book the last leg of the trip!
Funny story to cap off the day, Ben was offered a contract position a week ago that begins July 11th! Today was his last day at American Century and about an hour before he was leaving, he got a call from the HR Department asking if he would consider staying and they would work with him and figure some options to accommodate his earlier request of some time off unpaid. WHAT?? In the end, he was grateful, but told them he was ready to move on.
To the next chapter! It’s almost 11:00pm and we still aren’t packed.
